Why how to climb?

At How to Climb we are passionate about high quality learning and this is why we only work with the best coaches and instructors.

Our courses are designed to be easy to digest and fun, but also challenging. We use lots of goal setting and personal reflection tools to make sure that the level of challenge is right for you as an individual. Our courses build new skills and progressively develop existing knowledge with the aim of you leaving at the end confident and psyched for your next climbing adventure.

Our courses normally run at a ratio of one instructor to one or two participants, however we can accommodate larger groups, so just let us know.  Our price for a single day of instruction is £250 for one or two people.

Intro to Outdoors

Our intro courses cover all the skills needed to competently second/follow traditional rock climbs. We look at tying in, belaying, building belays, placing and removing gear and much more.

Learn to Lead Trad

Learning about how to place gear, build belays and safely climb traditional rock climbs. We often run five day courses which are great for consolidating experience and moving on to more advanced techniques and more challenging climbs.

Learn to Lead Sport

Perfect for indoor climbers looking to take the leap and move outdoors. We usually run these courses over one or two days, perfect for building confidence in climbing independently outdoors.

Self Rescue

Do you know what to do when it all goes wrong? Join us for a day or two of playing with ropes to gain confidence in the case of an emergency. Escaping the system, hoisting/hauling, abseiling past a knot and rescuing an injured casualty are all elements we usually cover.

Bigwall Skills

A course aimed at boosting your existing trad skills to equip you to tackle bigwalls like El Cap. We will normally aim to cover; aid climbing, jumaring, hauling and all the bigwall logistics and tactics needed to climb big rocks.

Multipitch Skills

Aimed at single pitch trad leaders who would like to move onto longer and more adventurous routes. On these courses we look at stance management, multipitch abseiling, avoiding tangles and much more.
