Climb the routes you've always wanted to climb, explore new areas and make the most of your time in the mountains with an experienced local guide.

From classic multi-pitch routes and adventurous mountain days to sea cliffs and scrambling, guiding with How to Climb is about more than simply reaching the top. We'll help you choose the right objective, manage the day safely and make the most of the climbing along the way.

Based in North Wales, we know the crags, mountains and sea cliffs of Snowdonia (Eryri) intimately. Whether you have a specific route in mind or want some help choosing your next adventure, we'll build the day around you.

guided Winter Walking

Explore the mountains in their winter element.

Winter walking transforms the mountains of Wales and Scotland, bringing snow-covered summits, frozen landscapes and a completely different character to familiar routes. Guided winter walks are a great way to experience these mountains with an experienced guide, choosing objectives that match your experience, ambitions and the conditions on the day.

From classic winter days in Snowdonia (Eryri) to the bigger mountains and remote landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, we can help you make the most of the winter environment while keeping the day enjoyable, achievable and appropriately challenging.

Whether you're looking to experience your first snowy mountain day, tackle a classic winter summit, or take on a longer and more demanding mountain route, we'll help you choose an objective that suits you and the conditions.

Guiding can include:

  • Winter mountain walking in North Wales

  • Snowdonia (Eryri) winter routes

  • Winter walking in the Scottish Highlands

  • Snow-covered mountain summits

  • Classic mountain ridges and traverses

  • Longer and more challenging winter days

  • Introductory winter mountain days

  • Navigation and route-finding in winter conditions

  • Route-specific guiding

  • Multi-summit and mountain traverses

Winter mountain conditions can be very different from summer, with snow, ice, strong winds, limited visibility and short daylight hours all influencing route choice. We'll assess the conditions and choose an objective that provides a rewarding adventure while remaining appropriate for the day.

Not sure where to go? Tell us about your experience and what sort of winter adventure you're looking for, and we'll suggest some suitable routes in Wales or Scotland.

How does guiding work?

1. Tell us what you'd like to climb

You can come with a specific route or simply tell us what sort of adventure you're looking for.

2. We'll plan the objective

We'll consider your experience, aspirations, weather and conditions to choose an appropriate route.

3. Climb

Enjoy the day while we manage the technical aspects of the route and provide guidance throughout.

4. Make the most of the day

The aim isn't simply to get you up a route—it's to have a great experience and, where appropriate, help you learn along the way.
